Does FileLocator Pro support files of type XXX?

FileLocator Pro can search any file format for text but by default FileLocator Pro opens files in their raw binary format. While this works well for text based formats other formats, such as ZIP files or MS Office files, do not work as well. Therefore FileLocator Pro uses extensions to process non-text based formats so that their underlying data is correctly retrieved and searched.

FileLocator Pro supports two types of extensions:

- IFilters (filters based around Microsoft's indexing service filter specification)

- FileLocator Pro extensions (filters based around Mythicsoft's in house filter specification)

FileLocator Pro ships with a number of pre-configured extensions for popular formats such as ZIP, RAR, CAB, DOC, XLS etc. (a list of supported file formats is listed in the Extensions tab). If a given file format is not listed then there may be an IFilter available on the Internet on sites such as:

http://www.ifilter.org/

http://www.ifiltershop.com/

The help file has detailed information on how to configure IFilters in FileLocator Pro:
